의문문 2 (Do you know where ...? / He asked me where ...)

■ 의문사(What, Where 등으로 시작)가 뒤로 나올 때 어순이 '주어 + 동사' 순으로 바뀜

ex 1) Where has Tome gone?

=> Do you know where Tom has gone?

ex 2) What time is it?

=> Do you know what time it is?

※ What time까지 의문문

ex 3) Where can I find Linda?

=> Can you tell me where I can find Linda?

 

■ do / does / did를 사용한 의문문은 바꿨을 때 다시 사용하지 않음

ex 1) What time does the movie begin?

=> Do you know what time the movie begins?

※ What time ...에서는 does가 3인칭 단수로 사용했으므로 begin은 단수 동사 사용

※ Do you ...에서는 does가 없어졌으므로 begins로 3인칭 단수 동사 사용

ex 2) What do you mean?

=> Please explain what you mean.

ex 3) Why did she leave early?

=> I wonder why she left early.

 

■ 의문사가 없을 경우, if / whether 사용

ex) Did anybody see you?

=> Do you know if/whether anybody saw you?

 

■ 간접의문문

★ 직접은 "당시에(과거 시점) 말한" 내용을 말함

★ 간접은 "지금, 당시에 있었던(과거 내용)" 내용을 말함. 과거형으로

직접 ex 1) The police officer said to us, "Where are you going?"

간접 ex 1) The police officer asked us where we were going.

직접 ex 2) Claire asked, "What time do the bacnks close?"

직접 ex 2) Claire wanted to know what time the banks closed.

✅ 4) (What does this word mean?) I want to know what this word means.

💡 5) (Has the plane left yet?) Do you know if/whether the plane has left yet?

=> yet 사용 하지 않음. if/whether the plane has left

✅ 6) (Is Sue going out tonight?) I don't know if/whether Sue is going out tonight.

✅ 7) (Where does Carol live?) Do you have any idea where Carol lives.

✅ 8) (Where did I park the car?) I can't remember where I parked the car.

✅ 9) (Is there a bank near here?) Can you tell me if/whether there is a bank near here?

✅ 10) (What do you want?) Tell me what you want.

❌ 11) (Why didn't Kelly come to the party?) I don't know why Kelly not came to the party.

=> why Kelly didn't come to the party.

❌ 12) (How much does it cost to park here?) Do you know how much the cost to park here?

=> how much it costs to park here?

✅ 13) (Who is that woman?) I have no idea who that woman is.

❌ 14) (Did Ann get my letter?) Do you know if/whether Ann get my letter.

=> if/whether Ann got my letter.

✅ 15) (How far is it to the airport?) Can you tell me how far it is to the airport?

 

당신은 Amy와 통화하고 싶어 전화를 했지만, 그녀는 없고 다른 사람이 전화를 받았습니다. 당신은 다음 세 가지를 알고자 합니다. 아래 세 개를 참고하여 문장 완성하기.

(1) Where is Amy? (2) When will she be back? (3) Did she go out alone?

✅ 1) A: Do you know where Amy is?

B: Sorry, I have no idea.

✅ 2) A: That's all right. I don't suppose you know when she will be back.

B: No, I'm afraid I don't.

✅ 6) He asked me where I was living.

✅ 7) He asked me if/whether I was glad to be back.

❌ 8) He asked me if/whether I planed to stay for a while.

=> if/whether I had plans to stay for a while.

✅ 9) He asked me if/whether I could lend him some money.
